Meet the Makers of JOY, a series.
At Joyscape, we believe that joy comes from the heart of those who help create it.
In this new series, “Meet the Makers of Joy,” we’re going behind the scenes to introduce the incredible individuals who bring passion, care, and expertise to our team.
First up is Michael Quan, one of our dedicated Behavioral Program Directors.
Journey
Michael’s journey through the world of behavior analysis began when he earned his Bachelor’s in Psychology in 2012. Over the next decade, he achieved all three certifications offered by the BACB, starting as an RBT (Registered Behavior Technician), moving on to BCaBA (Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst), and eventually becoming a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst). In 2022, he completed his Master’s in Education. With years of experience, Michael has grown to not only support clients but also mentor other professionals in behavior analysis.
Since joining the field of behavior analysis in 2013, Michael has been driven to help his clients and their families connect in meaningful ways. His approach is centered around prioritizing client autonomy, ensuring that each individual feels empowered to make decisions that promote independence and improve their quality of life. Michael’s experience spans various settings and populations, from early learners to adults, with a focus on social skills, daily living skills, and managing severe problem behaviors. What fuels his ongoing dedication is witnessing the progress his clients make—especially when they generalize their newfound skills to real-world scenarios alongside their caregivers.
Off the Clock!
When Michael isn’t working, he enjoys traveling and exploring. Greece, Italy, and Spain are top of his list. Being of Chinese, Hawaiian, and Puerto Rican descent, visiting China and Puerto Rico are also important to him. Closer to home, he hopes to travel to the different Hawaiian islands.
Your Favorites?
His go-to color is eucalyptus green and sage green as he loves the calming effect it has. When it comes to food, he’s all about French fries and potstickers, and he also has a soft spot for mint chocolate chip ice cream. His favorite movie? The 2000 cult classic Bring It On! As for TV shows, he can binge-watch Grey’s Anatomy or Charmed anytime.
When it’s time to unwind, Michael enjoys binge-watching TV shows or listening to music. He also loves roller skating, hiking, and taking care of his plants. And don’t be surprised if you catch him stopping strangers on the street to ask if he can pet their dog. An animal lover through and through, Michael will always take up the chance to make a new furry friend.
